Great sphinx of giza


 icon of Egypt besides The Great Pyramid. It is also located in the Pyramid complex in Giza Plateau. The shape of the statue is believed to be adapted from a mythical creature called Sphinx. It is the oldest and the biggest sculpture in Egypt, and it is believed to have been built during the reign of Pharaoh Khafre.

The Great Sphinx of Giza is a big sculpture with the size of 1387 square meters and the height of 20 meters. It is made of a limestone. The statue resemble a mythical creature in a recumbent position, with the body of a lion and the head of a human. The face of The Great Sphinx is believed to represent the Pharaoh Khafre. The head of the statue is facing the east and the back of the statue is facing the west.


The Giza Sphinx, which is 73.5 meters long, 6 meters wide and 20 meters high, is the largest single stone structure in the world.Although there is no direct evidence of age, the sphinx is believed to have been built around 4,600 years ago.The face of the Sphinx Giza depicts the fourth dynasty pharaoh Khafra with the cobra emblem on the forehead.


The Sphinx of Giza has undergone several restorations and is a national symbol of Egypt as well as a very valuable heritage of ancient history.
